NEWSLETTER January 2006, Issue No. 5
In this issue read about:
From the Editor

I am honoured and excited to be taking on the Editor’s role for the Colourworks Newsletter. My association with Colourworks is only a year old, but what it has done for me over the past year has been phenomenal. My first reading from Moira was in January 2005 and I was so taken with the whole system that I immediately took Colour 1 and 2 courses and began to incorporate the bottles into the healing work I was already doing.

During the course of 2005 I began to do readings, both in person and by distance, and was always amazed – as were my clients - at their power and accuracy. I found myself using the bottles more and more in healing sessions and gradually built up my set of bottles until I had the full set.

In November 2005 I was privileged to take part in the 6-day Colourworks Teachers course. This was an incredible experience for all who were there. I could not have believed how exciting, powerful and just downright wonderful this course would be! Nor how much of an effect it would have upon me.

One of my greatest joys is working with these bottles myself. I ‘connect’ with them in some way almost every day. Usually I will choose a few bottles each evening and either meditate with them or place them by my bed while I sleep, or both. Sometimes I bathe in them. Sometimes I choose a few bottles to place by my computer while I’m working on it. The ways we can work with this system are endless and the effects it can have are incredible. In my article on this issue’s Feature Colour, Olive, I share with you some of the insights I received after bathing in an olive bottle.

Colourworks is going through huge shifts and changes as we move into this wonderful New Year, and Moira Torchio tells us more about them in her column. 2006 is an ‘8’ year – a year of building solid foundations from which we can move forward, and Melissie Jolly tells us more about the numerology impact of the number 8 below. Many people who are ‘in the know’ about these things feel that 2006 will be a hugely positive time for all who are willing to really live their truth and step into their own incredible power. Colourworks is one of the ways we can do this. If you find you use them with your clients but forget to use them for yourself, take some time to really ‘be’ with this system. It has so much to offer on so many levels.

Interview with Dr David Hamilton – Are Businesses ready for Spirituality?

In the previous Colourworks Newsletter (No. 4), Moira Torchio wrote a review of Dr David Hamilton’s book, ‘It’s the thought that counts’, in which he provides sound scientific evidence for the power of words, affirmations and prayer, and shows that we really do create our own reality. Moira interviewed David recently to find out what effect his book has had in the ‘mainstream’ world.

Since the launch of your book ‘It’s The Thought That Counts’ – how has your life changed?
Tons of stuff, for example I was a lecturer of Chemistry and Ecology, but since the book launch I have been invited to do so many talks that I now continuously present talks and workshops based on my book. My life has become about promoting the book, but it is what I always wanted to do, to teach about love and kindness from a scientific point of view. I just knew that was what I had to do when I left the pharmaceutical industry in October of 1999 where I had worked as a scientist.

What were your intentions with this book?
I don’t really know if I had any set achievement in mind, I just knew I had to write it. I started writing it when I left the pharmaceutical industry and it took about 5 drafts over 3 years and every time it was a different version that appeared so that I had to bin the previous drafts. I co-founded during 2001 a charity called Spirit Aid, and when my time with them was over I knew I had to finish writing this book.

Who has shown an interest in your book?
I thought it would be therapists mainly who would read the book, but I have found the biggest audience is the ordinary person who knows nothing or has never been exposed to the ideas on spirituality in my book. People are getting excited about the book because it makes sense to them as there is so much science to back up what I say about love and kindness. Their response has led to opportunities in the business community for teaching people how their thoughts affect their work.

I have been booked quite a few times to do staff in-service training in schools. Most of the staff have not been exposed to spirituality but when they get it, they understand how they can influence the work they do with children because the children will get the science of it.

One woman business owner in West Scotland who teaches leadership programmes was inspired by my workshop to add a new training programme to offer Chief Executives and managing directors based on ‘It’s the thought that counts’. She said she recognised that this is the next level of training she needed to offer corporates.

Are mainstream taking the book seriously?

Yes, very.

Why?
I am a scientist and lecturer, I have the credentials, and I researched and took out some real hard scientific evidence to back up the book. I had to put the scientific information in a simpler language so that everyone can benefit from the evidence given.

Do you think mainstream is ready for spirituality?
Absolutely.

Why?
They have been ready for it for a while but we have not learned to speak the language. If you teach in France you learn to speak in French; when you learn the mainstream language it becomes easy to talk to them. Once I started talking to them about spiritual concepts in scientific terms it became obvious to them that their thoughts affect their reality.

Give an example of a corporate response to your book/talks?
Feedback: “…absolutely brilliant, my staff need to hear about this, wish my whole company could understand that the way we think has planetary effects….”

Have you got advice for therapists wanting to go mainstream (NHS, schools, colleges, businesses etc)?
Don’t be afraid, because almost everyone is waiting for this. I was a wee bit afraid that I would get shot down, but this has not been the case.

Do we, the alternative therapists, need to be scientific to be taken seriously?
No, the science is useful as a tool to help to communicate only. But for therapists who don’t have science as a tool, speak your mind, the level of consciousness of the world is increasing and if you say what you believe, it will resonate with people, unlike 5 years ago when it would not have done so.

Note: During November 2005 this book was in the top 20 mind/body/soul bestsellers list on amazon.co.uk. This is unusual for a self-published author whose book has only been out a few months but it got the attention of a publishing house and Dr Hamilton now has a book deal with Hay House and ‘It’s The Thought That Counts’ will be relaunched during September in UK, South Africa, USA and Australia.

Dr Hamilton is currently researching his new book and moving from Scotland to Berkshire. If you would like to write to him about the book or invite him to deliver a talk to your organisation, his email address is: davidhamilton1970@yahoo.co.uk

Focus on the Colour Olive by Erica Connolly

In this issue we focus on the colour olive – a beautiful, spring-like colour which opens us to hope and new beginnings, and connects us with our ability to manifest. What better way to start 2006 than with a dose of olive?!

Olive is found between the yellow of the solar plexus and the green of the heart and is one of the softest colours in the Colourworks range. It brings to mind a gentle spring morning; yet contained within this gentleness is deep, true power. This is the power of the feminine – the power which is based on love, not fear.

There are several bottles in the Colourworks range which contain olive:

No. 10 Wheel of Fortune Gold/Olive
No. 15 The Magician Olive/Olive
No. 16 The Tower Olive/Lilac
No. 24 Love, Money and Creativity Pale Magenta/Pale Olive
No. 26 Partnerships Magenta/Olive
No. 32 Communication Royal Blue/Olive
G6 The Goddess Awakens Copper/Olive
C3 Solar Plexus Chakra Olive/Yellow

Each contains its own message, of course, but within each of these bottles are also the universal messages of olive. Before writing this, I took the opportunity to bathe in one of the olive bottles, and this is the information I received:

“Olive is peace, olive is joy, olive is tranquillity. Olive is the first tentative flutterings of spring, the first steps of a newborn lamb, the gentleness of morning sunshine after a storm. Olive is the lioness, the goddess, the wise woman. Olive is clarity, beauty and the sacred feminine. Olive nurtures, supports and holds us. Olive is when we allow our emotions to empower us. Olive is trust. Olive is when our heart is in deep resonance and connection with our solar plexus and we feel utterly centred, balanced and at one. Olive is when our solar plexus no longer fears or doubts what our heart has to say.”

Amanda Bradbury, another Colourworks Teacher, had this to offer about olive: “Olive and bottle 15 in particular is good for clearing bitterness and bringing in love when there may be good reason to feel resentment. It helps to make a new beginning on an inner emotional level, somehow giving oneself an olive branch. It seems particularly appropriate for family issues if you think about olive trees being planted for the generations to come”.

Do something wonderful for yourself at the beginning of this New Year. If you don’t already have an olive bottle, contact the Distribution Centre and treat yourself to the one that draws you the most. And if you do have one (or several!) sitting on a shelf at home, start connecting with it. Focus on it, meditate with it, hold it, breathe it in and see what comes through. Better yet, put some in your bath and luxuriate in the soft, nurturing, feminine energy of olive. As you do, allow yourself to open to what you would like to attract into your life this year, and know as you do this that you are allowing yourself to receive on a very deep level.
Number 8 and the Year 2006 by Melissie Jolly

8 is the number of power and abundance. 2 is the number of partnership and balance and 6 is the number of vision and love. So with balance and love we are getting ready to create abundance for all and authentic power where no one is more or less than us. The energies relate to Saturn which was always seen as the heavy one astrologically but although he is stern, when you are on the right path he is completely supportive. So for this year we can look at bottles 2 and 6 and 8, giving us blue for boys (2), pink for girls (6) and when we have that in balance we are open for a connection with our spirit, which is violet (8). There is such perfect balance in the numbers for this year that it is definitely a year for coming together and letting go of the difficulties of the past 7 years. Also look at the other bottles that add to 8: 17 is the wish bottle and 26 is heaven to earth so bring on 2006 and god bless all of us with huge abundance and a clear sense of our own divine power and magnificence.
Cosmic Connections by Amanda Bradbury

The autumn of 2005 has been a particularly significant and powerful time and this sets the stage for what is to come to fruition in 2006. The healing planetoid Chiron moved permanently into Aquarius on the 5th December where it will stay until 2010. This represents shifting up a gear: shifting vibration and planes of consciousness. It brings an opportunity for healing the `split’, or feelings of alienation or separation and provides support for alternative healing.

Throughout most of 2006 Jupiter will be in Scorpio after moving into this sign at the end of October. This shines a spotlight on our unconscious selves and supports depth, commitment and intimacy. One of the themes of this journey is about discovering and revealing hidden and esoteric knowledge.

Between 2nd September and 24th December every planet except Jupiter changed direction at least once. This is very unusual and suggests a big shaking up of the status quo and that we’re being asked to take our next big step into the Light.

Last year’s 11:11 gateway, on the 11th November, was particularly momentous, and this is indicated by the numerology for the 11th November 2005 creating a triple 11:11:11. These new energies are about unity and coming into one-ness.

Mars turned direct on 10th December and the feeling of pressure released was intense, as we work to integrate our ego or animal side and lift our energies to higher levels. The explosion and fire in Hemel Hempstead happened early the following morning.

The 12:12 was about integrating and anchoring the energies of the 11:11 ready for what will unfold in January. This has been an extremely intense time as the energies of the Moon have been unusually strong through mid December, particularly around the transformational Full Moon of the 15th with Pluto making an exact connection. We need to be compassionate with ourselves if we’ve temporarily lapsed into old patterns or conditioning at this time. This is simply an opportunity to purify and release. The winter solstice on the 21st brought a time to gather our energy and celebrate.

The New Moon on New Year’s Eve at 9 degrees Capricorn, makes this an extra powerful time to set personal New Year Resolutions and intentions for the planet. This is truly a time to let go of the old and bring in the new, an opportunity to manifest our heart’s desire.

Throughout January and February Pluto, planet of transformation, is inching very close to its exact conjunction with the galactic centre currently at 26 degrees 56 minutes Sagittarius, digging deep into our collective psyche and metaphorically ploughing the field for the Golden Age. This is a long-range, profound influence and its effects ripple out over many years.

The second half of January brings great energy and enthusiasm with Mars, Jupiter and Neptune forming connections in fixed signs, culminating with the inspiring link between Jupiter and Neptune on the 28th, which represents promise fulfilled after the pressure was put on at the end of last year.

Minds open and visions can be shared under the expansive gaze of Mercury in Aquarius and then Pisces through late January and February. Also, Mercury plays a lead role in the New Moon at 9 degrees Aquarius on the 29th January, putting the emphasis on breaking patterns of thinking and communicating new ideas.

After almost seven months of dragging its feet through muddy Taurus, Mars, planet of action, moves into Gemini on 17th February for a two-month visit, creating a feeling of life speeding up with contacts to be made and information to be shared.

Finally, the catalyst Uranus is conjunct the New Moon on 28th February at 9 degrees Pisces, bringing possible confusion, change and awakening and a powerful time to anchor the new and different.

Amanda Bradbury brings colour into her work with astrology and offers astrology consultations and workshops. Readings are about personal and spiritual growth and how to master the planetary energies shown in our birth charts. Melissie Jolly Column – Birth of the Whale Bottle no. 34

When Moira was in South Africa during August 2005, she came to me in Stanford. It was just at the beginning of the whale season and although we could see them in the distance they did not come in as close as they do later on, when they are birthing their babies. At that time we felt the need for a blue bottle that would anchor her experience with the whales, but I thought that Colourworks as a system was complete and felt that the bottle I made for Moira would be a one-off.

A few weeks later I was walking along the cliff path when I saw three people peering into the sea and went closer to see what they were looking at. Suddenly, near enough to touch, three whales surfaced and rolled in the waves - just really hanging there. They are such a spectacular sight when they are so close that we stood there absolutely mesmerised. After about 20 minutes they disappeared under the surface and we waited, not knowing whether they would reappear or whether they had gone, when suddenly, like a little (5 metre) cork, up popped a little grey baby. What we had witnessed was a birth. The mom, a midwife and the dad guarding the entrance to the cove. It was such a moment. They floated for a while and then they flicked their tails and left. The numbers intrigued me as there were three people watching and then I came making it four. There were three whales and then the baby was born, making it four and at that point I got such a clear instruction from the male that there had to be a whale bottle that I went home and made one and realised that the only place it would fit into the system would be as number 34 which makes seven which always is an indication that spirit is involved.

So our bottle has something of a surprise and something of a release and is very much of the birth of the new by connecting to the ancient information that is becoming more and more available.

2006 is bringing in new beginnings for Colourworks. The website has been updated to include a comprehensive listing of our current Teachers and Therapists, as well as a listing of all the bottles with their messages. We have a new Editor for our Newsletter, Erica Connolly. Erica, a teacher, therapist and freelance writer has already introduced new columns in this issue that will make it an exciting and informative read. Labels for the bottles have been designed and Melissie is sourcing a printer for us. One of the most exciting developments for 2006 is our intention to bridge the gap between mainstream and the alternative ‘mind/body/soul’ markets. We feel it is time for businesses to take seriously what we have to offer and two corporate colour workshops have been designed for our teachers to present to the NHS, Colleges, Schools, Corporates, etc.

The November 2005 Teachers courses in England and Scotland were a huge success and an amazing experience for both Melissie and me. We have a very high calibre of Teachers and would like to repeat this workshop during 2006. If you are interested please let me know. A special trip is being planned by Melissie for Colourworks Teachers and their families to South Africa in August/September. I can recommend this as it will include whale watching, white shark diving, wine tasting and just being in the most beautiful spot on the planet. I visited Melissie during August last year and saw the whales. One whale connected with me for a full 15 minutes and little did I know that this was the start of the new whale bottle number 34 being born. Our bottles are made in the most beautiful setting: mountains, forests with fairies (see photo), a river running by and next to the Bay where the whales give birth.
Book Reviews
Discover Atlantis – Diana Cooper and Shaaron Hutton

Review by Moira Torchio

There are many books out there about Atlantis, this one by Diana and Shaaron is probably the best I have read. It is written with wisdom and gentleness and gives us the human story behind the Atlantis experiment. Described within its pages are the beginning of Atlantis, marriages, animals, leisure, education and how we worked as healers. There are practical exercises at the end of each chapter to help connect with our own memories of Atlantis.

We can clearly see the signs of our own times that are leading us toward a Golden Age, an age that was experienced in Atlantis. If you want to see our future, read this book about our past.

Ask and it is Given – Esther and Jerry Hicks

Reviewed by Sue Russell

What a book!!!! Esther channels ‘Abraham’ and Jerry questions Abraham. Abraham is a family of non-physical beings who want to help us to remember how to joyously create. We each create our own reality, no-one else can do it for us. It is our own responsibility. Have you ever wondered why it’s taking you so long to get what you want? Is it because you don’t want it enough? Because you’re not intelligent enough? Because you’re not worthy? Because fate is against you? Or is it because someone else has already won the prize that you want? It is actually none of the above. There is only one reason why you haven’t yet got what you truly want, and this book gives you the answer. It is so simple….

Absolutely everything you have ever wanted is waiting at your door step. This book will show you why you are not receiving it, how to ‘know’ why you’re not receiving it, and how to allow yourself to have it.

Once you understand the ‘oh so simple’ formula behind this book, you will never ever again become the victim, you will have absolute creative control over everything in your life. You will never need to go to another clairvoyant. You will know what your own future holds, because you will understand how to create it. If you don’t read another book this year, read this one!!!! Create your own reality with joy!

What the Bleep Do We Know – Movie

Reviewed by Moira Torchio

This movie stars the deaf actress Marlee Matlin who plays Amanda, a divorced photographer stumbling ‘into’ her metaphysical journey. This movie is very unusual as it combines a story-line, animation and documentary format that explores questions about life. Mystics and our world’s top scientists deliver their view of who God is and what life is all about, while Amanda starts noticing how her life is one big videotape that replays itself over and over again – revealing her patterns of self-destruction and limitations. Dr Masaru Emoto’s work features in the movie and gives a strong message about how we create our own reality with our thoughts and intentions. This is not an easy movie to watch - it is at times frustrating on the imagination. It does have some very funny moments you and your children will love, but be prepared, you will have to watch it more than once. What is exciting for our times is that a movie has been made that discusses the link between science and spirituality distributed by 20th Century Fox. You can read more about this movie and where to buy the DVD on www.thebleep.co.uk and www.whatthebleep.com

It’s the Thought That Counts – Dr David R. Hamilton
Book Review by Moira Torchio

We have been eagerly awaiting this book. It is the book that you shove (gently) under the noses of the sceptics who don’t believe in energy healing and call our work woo-woo stuff. I have had the pleasure of meeting David and his partner Elizabeth and know what a painful long journey it was for them to get this book published. David said to me that he had this book ready since he was 12 years old but knew it could not be published without scientific evidence. That evidence came when a scientist won a Nobel prize during 2000. This book tells us about experiments from all over the world that have been carried out to prove/disprove the vibrational/growth impact our thoughts and intentions have on our cellular structure. During a metaphysical workshop you learn that colour or affirmations can change your life – but where is the scientific evidence for us to access? This book brings them to your attention, but at the same time it takes the work of the metaphysical worker and makes it more accessible to the scientists to take seriously. What makes it extraordinary is that it is easy to read and understand, use of simple language.

There is more to this book than a list of experiments, you will learn about the evidence behind the Power of Prayer, the Power of Words (mention is made of Dr Emoto’s water experiments) and our DNA structure. David talks about the effect of group consciousness and how we collectively create our world. A powerful piece that stuck with me was an experiment conducted in China which David mentions when questioning whether the human voice (vocal sound) can have a positive effect upon serious diseases. He said he watched a video where three doctors from a Clinic and training centre in Qinhaungdao, China stood behind a woman who had a cancerous tumour in her bladder, approximately 3 inches wide. They had her in front of a real-time ultrasound scanner and visitors were able to see on the screen what happened. The doctors chanted a sound that means ‘already gone’ and to the amazement of the audience the tumour began to shrink right before their eyes. It disappeared completely in 2 minutes 42 seconds. As David is a first time author and self published, you will need to order your book from Waterstones, once they see there is a demand for this book they will start putting it on the shelves – exactly where it ought to be. The ISBN number when ordering is: 0955000505 Price UK £7,99 Published by Hamilton.

Colour Talks – Philippa Merrivale
Book Reviewed by Amanda Bradbury

Colour Talks takes the mask off colour, providing a broader spectrum of the spectrum! Not only is this a perfect book for students of colour who wish to extend their work beyond the personal to consider relationships, there’s much here to enrich one’s understanding of colour.
I found the section looking at an imaginary friendship where each person was represented by complementary colours interesting. Useful information about relating is also given and I love the idea about how relationships can move from power struggle to conscious offering of power to one another through loving support.
The sections on each colour deepen one’s understanding and it’s useful to have keywords in bold type. Philippa has clearly carried out detailed research and case studies are given about different couples and the issues that are challenging them. Using the guided visualisations for each colour at the back of the book is a lovely way to really absorb oneself in certain colours. Practical ways of using colour therapeutically are given and some interesting exercises, including one that involves one’s family tree. I enjoyed doing the quiz. Though perhaps not a beginner’s book, it’s jargon-free, not too technical and fairly easy to read. I feel bringing in more colour and more illustrations would be beneficial. On the whole however it seems to be advanced information at exactly the right time.
